Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Island Open Championship
|
1967 saw the introduction of the Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands Open Championship, a 36 holes scratch stroke play event, under the sponsorship of the Parkersell Company of Winchester. In addition to the money prizes, Mr J E B Stone, Managing Director of Parkersells, presented a silver trophy to be held by the Open Championship winner for one year. The County Union presented a silver salver to be held for one year by the Leading Amateur. In 1989 the running of the Open Championship was taken over by the Hampshire Professional Golfers Association with varying sponsors supporting the competition over the years.
