Junior Development Bursaries

At Hampshire Golf, we are committed to building a clear, inclusive and sustainable pathway that supports young golfers at every stage of their journey, from picking up a club for the first time to competing on the national and international stage. We are passionate about strengthening junior golf across the county, creating opportunities for players of all abilities to develop their skills, stay engaged within their club environment, and realise their full potential. We also recognise that as talented players progress and earn opportunities at the highest levels, significant financial pressures can arise — and we are dedicated to providing the support they need to thrive both on and off the course.

For Golf Clubs

At Hampshire Golf, we are committed to strengthening junior golf across the county. Our vision is to create clear, inclusive and sustainable pathways that enable young people of all abilities to take up the game, develop their skills and remain engaged within their club environment.

To support this ambition, Hampshire Golf is launching a Junior Development Grant Scheme for affiliated clubs. Grants of up to £1,000 are available to help clubs deliver impactful junior initiatives.

Each application will be reviewed individually. Priority will be given to clubs that demonstrate both immediate impact and a longer-term strategy for sustaining and growing junior participation.

Applications to be submitted to the County Office before 30/4/26.

What the Grant Is Designed to Achieve

The scheme has been created to:

  • Increase opportunities for young people to access golf
  • Support clubs in building structured junior sections
  • Enhance the visibility of junior golf within local communities
  • Encourage sustainable, long-term junior development planning

Hampshire Golf is keen to collaborate with clubs throughout the process to ensure initiatives are practical, well-supported and deliver meaningful outcomes.

Potential Use of Funding

While clubs are encouraged to propose innovative ideas tailored to their own needs, funding may typically support:

  • Delivery of structured grassroots coaching programmes (including PGA Professional costs)
  • Purchase of junior-specific equipment to support participation or club hire schemes
  • Hosting junior open competitions
  • Beginner engagement events such as “Get into Golf” days
  • Junior golf festivals or multi-week development programmes
  • Coaching in Primary Schools
  • Clubs are welcome to discuss proposals prior to submission to ensure alignment with the scheme’s objectives.

Application Process

Clubs wishing to apply should first submit an Expression of Interest by emailing Chris Harrison on admin@hampshiregolf.co.uk

Applications must:

  • Nominate a primary contact
  • Demonstrate wider club support (e.g. Junior Organiser, PGA Professional, Club Manager, or Committee Member)
  • Outline both short-term delivery plans and longer-term junior development goals

Following submission, Hampshire Golf’s Junior Development team will arrange a meeting to explore the proposal in more detail and offer guidance where required.

All applications will be reviewed by a designated panel, and clubs will be notified of the outcome in due course.

We look forward to working in partnership with our affiliated clubs to grow and strengthen junior golf throughout Hampshire.

Good luck with your application!

For Golfers

Hampshire Golf, we are committed to supporting the next generation of talented golfers as they progress through the county pathway. In particular, we recognise that junior and emerging players who earn opportunities to compete at national and international level can face significant financial pressures.

The Hampshire Golf Player Bursary Programme has therefore been developed to help young county players access high-level competitive experiences that are vital to their development, ensuring that opportunity and progression are not limited by financial circumstance.

Purpose of the Programme

The bursary programme is designed to:

Provide financial assistance to junior and emerging Hampshire County players competing in major national and international events.
Support the development journey of young golfers progressing through the Hampshire performance pathway.
Reduce financial barriers at key stages of a player’s early representative career.
Reinforce Hampshire Golf’s long-term commitment to nurturing and retaining talented young players within the county structure.

Eligibility

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be a current or recent member of a Hampshire County Squad.
  • Entered or entering a recognised national or international amateur championship. Not limited to but including England Age Group Championships (The Reid, Macgregor and Carris Trophies), R&A Championships, European Championships and Overseas Events
  • Be actively engaged in Hampshire Golf’s performance programmes and team environment.
  • Agree to the ‘player commitments’ listed below

Levels of Support

Bursaries are awarded in tiers aligned to the level of competition, for example:

  • Major International Amateur Events
  • National-Level Championships
  • Regional Major Junior Events
  • Support costs linked to performance delivery, such as contributing towards a recognised coach travelling to support the player at a major event.

Award values are determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary depending on available funding and individual circumstances.

Player Commitment

In return for support, recipients will be asked to:

Provide a short post-event summary and/or imagery for Hampshire Golf communications.
Support future junior development initiatives where appropriate.

This approach ensures that the impact of the programme extends beyond the individual, helping to inspire the next generation of Hampshire golfers.

Application Process

Players wishing to apply should email admin@hampshiregolf.co.uk with the following information:

  • The name of the event they are competing in.
  • Event dates and location.
  • A brief outline of anticipated costs.
  • Details of any other funding support being received.
  • A short summary explaining how the event will contribute to their development.

Applications will be reviewed internally, with awards made at the discretion of Hampshire Golf based on merit, event level and available budget.

Good luck with your application!
